which sat system for voice and data?

Hi Guys and girls,

I need a recommendation for a new sat system for our boat with the following requirements:

-not more than 5000 USD
-Only data requirement is to answer about 50 text emails (no attachments) per day and weather forecasts
-possibility to buy airtime when we need it. No annual contract, month is ok though. We only need the Sat phone and data where no 3G available
-Worldwide coverage
-Compatible with Microsoft Outlook
-Connectivity with Predictwind Offshore
-Speed faster than 2400bps

Can you tell me what the downside of Iridium Go is since I've heard negative reviews but can't remember why? For sure the 2400bps is one.

If we use XGate is it possible to use Outlook?

Looking forward to receive your recommendations!!

Kind Regards,

Eddie

If you want the real thing. The Kvh ip3 is ~15k...
An iridium handheld sat phone with a pc cable (USB). Would probably meet your needs.

Either Iridium or Inmarsat (no polar regions with Inmarsat) plus a super duper external antena.

Some sort of compression service nearly a must, imho.

Eddie,
take a look at Globalstar. I went with their Sat-fi system. I dont have any experience with it yet, since its still winter up here in New England. I plan on using down in the bahamas for the same type of use you mentioned. I did go with their unlimited data/voice plan for $149 a month.

Worth taking a look at.
