Yacht Insurance
Seeking info on insurance for Endeavour 42. Moving up from under 30 ft "boat" to this liveaboard cruising yacht. What cost might I expect for full coverage. I do not which to self insure. What insuraance companies are popular, have good rep for insuring larger cruising yachts for the Keys.

While companies like Markel, Ace, Pantaenious and others lead the market you are almost always better off using a broker who represents many such companies and can place your specific needs with a company who had good coverage, rates, and service in your market. I can recommend Al Golden of IMIS (; others can recommend brokers they deal with.

if you go to the search box and put in insurance there are more threads on insurance than you can count - you can write a book on insurance from what is in there - do a search before you ask

Re: Yacht Insurance
I know that you don't want to "self-insure", but be careful with the math. Florida hull coverage can be high or even not in effect with named storms. We found that over the last twenty years hull coverage in Florida had risen so much that we dropped it and kept liability only. All the policies we researched had premiums that were annually 8% of the market value of my 1973 boat.

I would consider the age of the Pearson and what you might "pocket" each year in saved hull coverage. Over a number of decades we've hidden in hurricane holes an saved far more than our boat's value.

We do keep a full liability policy!
