Awlgrip and black topside streaks
 

Does anyone have a suggestion about the best way to remove black (dark) streaks from white Awlgrip paint. I've been told that one should never use an abraisive on Awlgrip so I'm wondering what works the best without damaging the paint. I've used rubbing alcohol in the past and it works fairly well but I'm worried that this may be a bad idea.

Where does the black come from? Abrasives remove the outer layers of Alwgrip and they hold much of the Awlgrip finish protection. There is not that much that can actually penetrate the finish so many of the things you could get on the finish are not absorbed by it and abrassives won't be of use. Rubbing alcohol isn't very harsh. It's not pure alcohol.

I have been a long time lurker and avid reader, but never really found too many posts to reply to yet and I haven't had the time to really engage with all my questions. Having said that I do have a suggestion for you on your question.

Best product that we found for black streaks that seem to show up on the topsides is an RV product - black streak and bug remover. Below is the product we purchased, works great.

3M Finese 2 if the Awlwash won't remove it.

By hand or machine. I use a DA with a foam waffle pad for light work, hate to wheel newish Awlgrip.
