Boca Inlet local knowledge.
New to area. 40' 5.1 draft boat in Boca. Looking for local knowledge to reach open water. Boca inlet is small with fast current. Not sure best options to get out. Thanks

Re: Boca Inlet local knowledge.
You are correct, small and strong current. In very settled conditions I would consider using it in a sailboat. It was scary in a twin screw sport fisherman on a rough day. It's very difficult to stay put while waiting for the bridge to open. If it's anything but flat calm I would motor south to Hillsborough Inlet.

Re: Boca Inlet local knowledge.
It's better than Boca, not great. An outgoing tide against an onshore swell can cause breaking waves in the inlet. If it gets real snotty your only option is to use Port Everglades to the south or Lake Worth to the north, both of which are all weather inlets.

Take a look at Active Captain's Interactive Cruising Guide. You may find some local knowledge there.

On a calm day it is ok. Head east by north.
