Bahamians believe Haitians heisting H20

Haitians Toting Potable Water On Voyages Home

Bahamians on New Providence were being reassured by Minister of Works and Transport Dr Earl Deveaux that Haitian boats were not a significant cause of the millions of gallons of potable water lost daily from the water infrastructure.

"With specific regard to the Haitian sloops and the water taken by them, my initial thought was confirmed. They use the five gallon and 55 gallon buckets to put potable water on their ships to take back home. At most, they would take about 500 gallons on a given boat. It is hardly measurable in the context of the overall loss," Dr. Deveaux said.
One of the stand pumps at Arawak Cay was closed off because the Haitian vessels were using it to get water.

Other Bahamian news: The government has announced it is nearing completion on a new National Marina Policy to govern environmental issues related to development of marinas and golf courses.

One of the big problems there is that developers always seem to eventually get their way. Big stink in the Abacos where a developer is said to be ruining a reef with his super golf course at Baker's Bay. They're really digging the place up. Can't even anchor there anymore. The locals have been fighting it for years but "progress" marches on with a little greasing of the politicians.
