Best Anchorages in Puerto Rico

My husband and I will be sailing to Puerto Rico in May, where he will need to leave me, the dog, the cat, and the boat to go work for 2-2.5 weeks at the end of May. We are wondering about recommendations for safe (both from a boat and a personal safety standpoint) anchorages with other cruisers, easily accessible amenities, and a nice town/city. The ideal location would have a smaller harbor (we have a rowing dink, no outboard), a dinghy landing, a safe town or city, and maybe even somewhere nearby to take a daily jog. Internet would be great but not required. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Consider Culebra instead of the main island.

I second that suggestion. The ferry to PR is less than $3 if you need to go there.

Ensenada. Safe as houses anchorage. Small village with a few shops, friendly natives. I've been there a couple of times; never seen another cruising boat.

Hi all, the only problem with Culebra is getting my husband in and out. How easy/expensive is it?

See post #3. Ferry from Culebra to the mainland $3.00. From there it shouldn't be too much to catch a bus or shuttle to San Juan airport.

The problem with Culebra is that you may want to stay there forever!

You will not regret Culebra as a choice. As it has been said above, you might just not want to leave =)
