However I have been told their price is out of date and wrong. If this is true its false advertisement and makes it appear as if Aussies are getting ripped for trying to buy locally.

I would find it quite odd that Defender would have the wrong price on their web site. Based on long experience with the company I would almost bet they would honor whatever price they list.

Maybe drop and email to customer service to see what they have to say.

Den have a look at the KIWI PROP I have had mine forever, came with the boat and gives next to no drag and well priced.

Skip, yeah I think they would honor the price too. I forgot my password/login and sent them an email to see if they can find it for me. I also asked about pricing. I used defender a lot when I was in the USA refitting.

Simon. I like your blog! I found it when looking at my blog stats and noticed I got many hits redirected from yours. I have been quoted just under $2K for a kiwi prop. They also scored lowest in a prop test of 15 props in terms of max speed and bollard pull.

Thanks for that. I Cant understand why it would loose out on the speed and toque, when setting up the prop you can change the pitch (forward only) and mine achieves hull speed easily. I also slightly over pitched it to reduce my revs and keep it in the fuel economy range , my Perkins 4108 pushes us along at hull 7+knots at 2800revs.

My guess is the blade shape is compromised by the construction method. Looks like it has symmetrical blades with no cup (good for reverse) which bulge out at the top so they can fit a large metal shaft in them to stop the plastic breaking.

I would still be very happy if I had one on my boat, but after seeing the test I would not choose one when it costs $2K.

Possibly the prop was the wrong sized and not pitched well? But the size and pitch was in the same ranges of the rest of the props tested.

I strongly suggest you look at a feathering prop (vs folder). Much less likely to fail. Virtually no prop walk. take a look at the KIWI, manufactured in NZ. Best value for the money and a great product with a strong company backing.

Did you read my link above with the prop test?

Dennis,

I'm faced with the same problem for my 40.5. What did you choose and how did you make out?

thanks
