- Gina and I are in our late 40's and very interested in spending a few years on a boat cruising the Caribbean and East Coast of the U.S. We dont have a boat at the moment but are starting to look. We have decided on a Catamaran for certain but not sure about power or sail at this point. Im leaning more to sail for the economy she is concerned about the "as we get older" factor and if sailing is going to be too much. So we are on a quest to find the right answer. I have a decent amount of boating experience and some sailing with HobeCats and the time or two on a Monohull. Gina has a little experience with boating but is completely comfortable on the water.
Past that we have had a few carriers and we are now the proud owners of a new business that is in our 4th year and looks like it will survive. One of the tests of a liveaboard is constantly being with your "other". We have a pretty good jump on knowing what this will be like because we work together every day....all day... And I have not been sent to the couch once.
One of our short term goals is to crew on a few Cats in the area and get a feel for the work and expectations we should have. If any of you know of or would want to take a couple of newbies out and show us the ropes we would be grateful and willing to share in the costs. I can add as a teaser for anyone willing to to help us I know my way around a boat, am pretty handy but not necessarily mechanical and having graduated from Culinary School and spend 15 years in the restaurant business I know my way around a galley. So, enough of the plug.
We look forward to meeting as many of you as we can and have open ears to what ever advise your willing to give us.
Michael and Gina
