Have you sailed or boated any? Before we took one of our two cruises (each about 40,000 miles). The first one after 15 years of a high stress medical practice, and my wife a VP of Nursing at a medium sized hospital, we had extensive sailing experience racing boats, and living aboard for several years.

There are so many things to do when cruising that just sitting around does not happen. First and foremost is the maintenance of the boat. Now I am 84 and still cruise a month at a time in a 25 foot trailerable pilot house boat. Days are always full and nights are good time for rest.

We carried about 200 books aboard when we did our first trip Calif, thru Panama, up West Caribbean, to Maine, back to FL across the Atlantic, Med, Baltic back to Caribbean and then back to Calif. We had thousands of hours of music recored. We had photography as a hobby, and after return we gave lectures at various gatherings. So we laid the groundwork for that.
