Hello, I have enjoyed reading your Tri Posts, I am a retire naval architect from the UK but now living in Vietnam, I have extensive experience and some in tris, I would be happy to help you out on your Horstman. Do you have the lines plans for the boat? Contact me dewayne.young at me.com

Captain Gregger, I've been reading your posts in the "No love for trimarans" thread and wondered how your project got on? I think the pictures of your boat in the album are beautiful. I'm planning to go to the Philippines as soon as COVID allows to look at a boat available there that will need some TLC and perhaps modification. If you have any updated photos or plans I'd love to see them. Appreciate your previous sharing!

Following some of your posts, I'm excited to see the work you do in modifying your TriStar. I have been trying (and just missing) for years to get a Horstman between 38-45', and nearly had a mostly-built hull (foam core) to work with a couple years back here in Washington, but was out of the country at the time of the auction.

I will be sketching up some ideas of raising the saloon a bit to build something of a Horstman/Neel hybrid, but imagine (and hope) you'll have some pics up of your modifications by the time I am able to finally lock down a Horstman. Thanks for the insight & posts on this & your interactions with Ed!

Sorry for the long delay in responding to you, captaingregger. I have not been on this forum for a long time. If you can get hold of a SAILMag from Jan 2010, I wrote an article about trimarans vs cats and monos. I didn't really mention my preference for TriStars, as the article was for a more general comparison.
That said, I am a true Hosrt-o-phile. They give me everything that I look for in a blue water boat; strength, wide open interior, ease of movement (only one or two steps to go from one section to another - except of course the entry into the ama which has three steps) and reasonable load carrying capability. I also like the way they look. There are no sharp cornered deck step-ups as with most other designs.

    Cheers,

    Thom
