- Biography
- I started sailing later than a lot of people, in my late 20s. I had a Lancer 25 trailer sailor for a year on a lake in AR before making a sound financial decision to sell the house and the little boat and "invest" in a Catalina 380 (last of the Charlie Morgan designs) to live aboard in Kemah, TX. I spent a little over four years on her there. Learned a LOT about what not to do, hopefully a little more about what TO do, and met a girl silly enough to marry a sailor and move onto the boat with him. We sold the "big" boat and moved back ashore while we put her through grad school here in FL, but we finally picked up another little weekender Catalina 27. I mostly sit on the boat and drink while pretending to do important boat projects; I occasionally put the big flappy things up in the air and wax poetic about that magic moment when the engine goes off but the boat still moves forward. We're members of the Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club, and I show up for half a dozen races each year, so far on OPBs. Expecting to race the Witch Craft with them Spring of '24, but only in the sense that we'll follow the same course and whatever speed we decide is fun for the day; I didn't get into sailing to go fast (*but it sure is fun when you get to!)
Off the water, I'm a software engineer for work, and I like to tinker with just about anything for fun. The wife's getting her Master's for Speech Language. I own a set of golf clubs that I used to swing more frequently than I do now; I try to get out and ride my bicycle at least a couplefew times a week. Other than that, I spend entirely too much time drinking about big plans that'll probably never happen and being a general nerd. Looking for a good in-person D&D group in the area if anyone happens to know of one, and we're about a half a block away from the Ren Fest at Quiet Waters. Threaten us with a chance to dress like a pirate/vampire/barbarian/bard/etc. and we'll call your bluff!
