Hi Bob,
Yes, those 300 mile commutes get old. I spent half time living aboard and half time in Reno for 3 years while I built sea time for my OUPV license. Home for the holidats, I'm heading back to Bodega right after New Years.
It is nice to know I'm not the only crazy retired old guy out there.

Saw your post yesterday about boat design. I agree, as an aeronautical engineer and airplane builder, a change of one thing leads to a cascade of other changes.
I note with some amusement, I figure you live in Reno and sail from Bodega Bay! When I retired from the Army I was about to move to Reno, but ended up in West Virginia, and I sail out of Norfolk VA.
Getting things done on the boat while 300 miles away is a challenge. Lots of weekend trips as I am not fully retired yet!
I used to live in Carmel Ca, and my second favorite California County was Sonoma. Some day maybe I will once again return to Sonoma.
