These pic's shows the area where the mast step plate meets the fwd and aft cross member in the hull

aft end of the step plate; it's difficult to see the sunken area of the gelcoat on top of the aft cross member in this shot ... see the next pic for...

aft end zoomed; the gelcoat top surface of the cross member is sunken down about 0.3 inches

fwd end of the step; the gelcoat top surface is not sunken down like that of the aft cross member
