Just an update on the Columbia 50...I passed on it....someone else bought it, did a bunch of work to it, ran out of money, and then sold it to me at a loss...It will be delivered up here in Michigan around the 4th of November...then the real work starts..will be years before I will get her the way I want, but fun....

I am excited, but stressed, and worn out over this, arranging with 5 different contractors to get this done. I will be happy when it is at Torreson, and being repowered. Most likely I will have it trailered to my yard, where I can finish the work on it. the nice thing is that it is very simple mechanical, and electrical. Not a lot of extra gubbins, and doohickeys...a lot of cosmetic work, but some cabinetry.

PM me your cell if ya want to chat further....

The Columbia is a whole other story...long story short, and it is literally in the works right now. We have a signed offer, dirt cheap, but signed. The boat has no engine, and is priced as such, read cheap, and has to be towed everywhere. The survey is set for next Friday, and I will probably be, making up my mind that day. Sign the paperwork, run to the bank and sort through all the crap in storage, and there is a lot! I will have to have it moved First thing Monday morning for de-rigging, and loading on a trailer by noon, so they can get past Ft. Lauderdale heading north, by 3 pm, or they will have to stop and wait till the next day to continue. Arranging all this has been a nightmare, and the yard is of no help, and very limited in services, so I have to move it to pull it.

Hey Andy, just a note, I am Scott, Kevin is my brother..LOL. Glad to hear you sold Blue Bottle, finally, one of a sailors two happiest days....

I love the Easterly, really cool, to be honest I have never seen one in person, but the pics and description look great!! I was wondering when you would bring up your upcoming "swab", sorry going all Capt. Ron there...must be so exciting, I can still remember our first, and only, and our excitement, and expectations...and the subsequent lack of sleep...but it is sooo worth it. I am so happy for you..boy or girl??

    Hey Kevin,
What ever happened with your offer on the Columbia 50? What's the plan to sail it down there? Sail it home? Or are you going for the full time cruise for awhile?

Yea we sold Blue Bottle in January for full price! Which is good because I think I had it priced pretty fair. As with selling anything yourself, so many people have interest, set up a time to see it and then never show...

We put an offer in and agreed to a price on Bombay (Is it coincidence or fate that both our boats have been named after Gin?!). It is an Easterly 36, kind of a neat boat with a lot of interesting features. I'm excited to sail it for the first time. It has hard chines in the mid section of the boat. A partial skeg semi balanced rudder, and a nice foil shaped keel fin with lead which is integral to the hull. Tons of room below. Search Eastery 36 in Muskegon and you can still see the listing. We are very excited and nervous, with lots of work to do before launch and when the baby comes.

    Andy,

Sorry I did not reply sooner...did not see the notification till just now. We did not make it. Kevin was leaving for his honeymoon two days prior to the boat show, and I had just gotten back from Florida after making a long week of it looking at boats, it was a whirlwind tour to say the least. I was out the door by 8 everyday, and back around 9 PM at night every night. We put in an offer on one, a Columbia 50, and have to wait till Feb 20 when the owner is available, to hear anything back.

Did you sell your Columbia?? Last time I heard you had three people looking, but never heard anything after that.

Congrats on the new upcoming deckhand!! That is cool, mine is now 7, and started manning the helm at age 5..LOL. She has about 3 miles under her belt now..

Hey Scott, Did you and Kevin make it to the Strickly sail show? I was stuck at home doing renovations... The plus side is we have a little deck hand on the way, due in May. So, just in time for it's first season of sailing.

Kevin is not on here, I tried to get him to join some forums, and the like, but he hasn't. He is totally green, took ASA 101, and loved sailing. His wife is totally on board, they just got married this past December. I am going to try and get him to go with me to Strictly Sail Chicago, to take some classes with me, now that it is later in the winter, and combined with the RV show now...

Keep in touch, let me know how it goes....

Also, is your friend Kevin lurking around on here?

I'm one for the asthetic pleasure of a boat as well as the pleasure to sail. After all the difference between a phrf 148 rated boat and my boat at 226 on our average trip to white lake is around 15min give or take. Why not have the beautiful boat and get in a few minutes later. Sounds like you're looking for a bigger boat, if it's your first starting off smaller is better. They are easier to learn on and repairs and maintenance go up exponentially with the length of the boat. Just something to think of. I agree Alberg made some beautiful boats along with Phil Rhodes, Bob Perry, and S&S. I'll keep you in mind if the lakes ever thaw!
    Talk to you soon,

    Andy
