The Canadian friend I was talking about is out there cruising somewhere in the Mexico area. Its been years since I have talked with him as we are both away from our home base of Vancouver BC. We are in Turkey. They are Richard and Grace aboard s/v Crocodile Rock. He was able to get it working sort of going DDW in medium conditions but it would not steer the boat on a reach other than beating which is easy. He eventually sold the vane, sorry I can't help you more. Cheers, Robert

Thankyou for the time and energy spent replying. I readily acknowledge that the vane might not work, I just want to understand across how brod a range of offshore conditions that it is inadaquate.
