African Cats has pioneered the Green Motion retractable propulsion system which is claimed to make their sailing cats 40% lighter and faster than most other production catamarans.

Catalina Yachts is a U.S.-based builder of fiberglass monohull sloop-rigged sailboats ranging in sizes from eight to 47 feet in length. It was founded in 1969 in Hollywood, California by Frank Butler. Catalina Yachts is one of the largest boat manufacturers in the world, with over 60,000 boats manufactured to date.

Ericson Yachts, Inc. was a pioneering builder of fiberglass yachts. Ericson is now out of business, but its designs have been reproduced periodically by other manufacturers. EricsonYachts.org is an excellent online resource for Ericson owners as well since the corporate site was taken down in 2000.

Pearson Yachts was a small manufacturer of fiberglass sailboats built in Bristol, Rhode Island founded by cousins Clinton and Everett Pearson in 1956. The company is one of earliest fiberglass sailboat manufacturers. The Pearson cousins left the company in the 1960s, and Bill Shaw became the chief designer. Today, TPI Composites, formerly known as Tillotson-Pearson, is co-run by Everett Pearson and owns the rights to the Pearson Yachts brand name.

The Searunner Trimarans are home-built, wooden tri-hull sailboats designed by Jim Brown and John Marples intended for circumnavigation. Searunner Trimarans were designed in five hull sizes: 25, 31, 34, 37 and 40 feet.

James Wharram, has been designing, building and sailing offshore catamarans longer than any other multihull designer. Already in 1987 the "Multihulls Buyers Guide" showed that James Wharram had sold three times more plans than any other multihull designer in the world. Design sales have since topped 10,000.

The Hunter sailboat line began in 1973 when Warren Luhrs decided to combine his building skills with his passion for sailing. Among his goals was producing an affordable boat. The early Hunter boats, designed by John E. Cherubini, targeted the value-priced market and developed a reputation for respectable quality and good value. Hunter gradually evolved into one of the largest sales volume producer of mid-priced sailing yachts, in direct competition with Catalina Yachts and Beneteau.
