In fairness I wondered what would happen if I turned the "women want" question around. We of course got mostly men's answers to the "what do women want". Probably due to more men than women posters on the site (women are out there lurking), or maybe they just don't know and won't say.

So....What do men want on the boat?

I'll start....women and beer!

A compatible woman.

Enough money to cruise indefinitely.

A good set of sails.

A huge Bugel or Rocna anchor (no arguments please )

A laptop. I have ten years of my life (from two prior computers too) stored on my current laptop. Sad? Maybe! But true. And yes, I do back up my data (which reminds me...)

OK it's my fault for the women & beer thing and we all want enough money to do whatever it is we want, but lets get on track.

I want:
- a well laid out boat deck that doesn't injure/bruise one while moving about to do the common sailing things (reefing, anchoring, sail handling etc.) as I'm tried of people thinking I beat my wife after each weekend
-a comfortable cockpit that doesn't require climbing up on the seat areas to get around the wheel, is shaded and protected, has enough head clearance from the boom so that I don't always worry about going BOOM
- sail handling that can be managed by 1 person if need without requiring a long rest period after to recover from (whether it is number of sails or larger winches), a main sail that goes up/down without a battle or hang-up
- enough fuel to motor 450+ miles just in case
- a boat that handles good under sail and motor, not necessaily quick handling, but enough response to not be in fear and which is contastant
- a boat that will do a REASONABLE speed with light wind (and it's OK to have to use a spinnaker etc to do it as long as it meets the handling thing) but doesn't become fearful at 20-30 knots wind to be on
- a gallerywith 3 burners, refrigation, 1 deep sink big enough to put a real pan into for cleaning, enough counter space to have stuff out to make a meal without having to move all of it around to get to each item all the time while making something as simple as a sandwich
- foot valves for the water
- enough power and passive recharging to run stuff without always having to calulate the power use in my head first
- salon sitting where you can get in/out with the table upo without getting a new leg bruise. recliners with leg rests would be REAL nice
- NO LEAKS INTO THE PEOPLE TANK PART OF THE BOAT
- a head with a good seat, enough room to do paperwork in without a major position change, a real sink, a shower that you can stand up in and do a full circle in while your arm is bent
-at least 100 gal of water and a way to keep it fairly full
- at least a 20 gal holding tank that is NOT in the living space of the boat and which vents well outside
- at least 1 berth that will hold 2 REAL people and which 1 can roll over without waking the other up or hitting you head on something
- that same berth that doesn't require gymnatics to get into and out (can live with a little gymnatics to do 1 or the other, but not both)
- enough electronics to know where I am, where I'm headed, what's out there
- a women who is happy to be on the boat doing the same things I want to do
- and I have to admidt it - BEER (and whatever it takes to keep it cold)

Women know all men want is a happy woman. Thats why they can play us off the breaks all the time.

A dingy thats EASY to put in and out of the water without taking off the engine.
A bow or stern boarding ramp thats easy to deploy.
Lots of icecream.

I would like to not have to deal with bottom paint and hull, deck and GRP waxing, varnishing and oil changing. Unfortunately. I have no one else to deal with it and so I get to do it and complain.

Then there are things like:

anchors that never ever drag
days of blue skies and fair winds of 15-20 with small seas.
clear blue water
not having to run the engine or one that doesn't make noise or smells
ice cream
