Saying goodbye to my best friend...
Tonight I have to let my best friend go. Buffett, our Golden Retriever has cancer and it's terminal. We have had this wonderful dog since she was a pup, over 11 years ago. I held her tiny body in my hand the day she was born, and I'll hold her head in my lap tonight as she leaves us. It's truly the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. I know I don't have to say this to anyone here, but I'll say it anyway. Cherish every day and every moment with your pawed family members. Their time is far too short with us.
-Tom

Re: Saying goodbye to my best friend...
Buffett took to sailing right off. She had it in her soul. On our first tack, she just knew to move to the leward side. She was never nervous about it. I really wanted to sail with her a lot more.

Sorry for your loss, but as you say enjoy the time you have...and appreciate that you had the opportunity when they are gone. This applies to pets and people.

Re: Saying goodbye to my best friend...
We understand your sorrow.
We lost the best cat we ever had 12 years ago.
Not a day goes by we don't think of him.
You're in our thoughts.

Tom, I will give Jackson, my Golden R, a big hug and nuzzle in Buffett's honour, as soon as the smell of what he rolled in last night wears off.
I will also be thinking of you two tonight.

Re: Saying goodbye to my best friend...
I read this, reached down and petted my dog on the head and threw her ball.
Condolences and fair winds to you and Buffett.

I am sure sorry to hear about that Tom. I have had quite a few pets of different kinds over the years and it is always hard to lose one of them.

Re: Saying goodbye to my best friend...
Tom,
I know what you are going through, and you are doing the right thing.
One way I have honored my friends who have gone before, is to try to focus on the joy they brought into my life, instead of the sadness of their passing.
It is hard, and impossible not to... but Buffet would really rather you celebrate then morn. Sounds like the dog had a pretty good human to spend this journey with....
Damn it, now I am teared up too.
Fair winds,
