You're right, it is a sad story, but I think the signature tells the story.

It is a story, like the Nigerian Princess ones. This one has been tailored to a younger audience, and is going for many small donations. Makes me wonder if it is also a credit card search.

Evey lie has a core plausibility. Possible does not mean "true" or "real."

Honestly, even if the story is true. They are working below their capabilities. That is a choice. Moving away from their home area was a choice. Given a hit like that, would you not seek counseling for the grief, and try to get yourself back on solid footing? If necessary, declare bankruptcy and then work to rebuild?

Nah, I think "gofund.me" says it all, and what it says isn't pretty, true or false.

I doubt this story too. yes people can have tragedy that strikes and leaves them floundering. but "the insurance did not cover the unborn child somehow" is a red herring. If they had coverage for maternity any cossts associated with miscarriage or premature feotal death is covered. There are no costs not to cover because any other costs would fall under care of the mother.

The bottom line, regardless of the story, is simple (and honest in a way):

We both work, new jobs, for low pay.
At this rate it will take many years to get back on track. We have about $20,000 in debt, and we just need a year to think about these events, and not work 120 hour between us. We need time to heal.

They don't want to work as much as they need, or try and get better jobs.
They are looking for people to pay their debt and give them 20k extra.

What that page says, in the end, is "we want 40k of free money".

Fair enough, I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to give me some money

I don't know the truth of the story all I know is if his boat is Union Pacific it's Scoobert that upset some folks on this site and was banned. He's now on Sailnet and goes by the user name of Union Pacific.

Scoobie is more like 50 and previously was telling people he had a son killed in Iraq or something. The sad part is he spent a good bit of his "cruise" living in St Augustine which seems to somehow really attract/create these types.

My wife and I also lost a baby shortly before birth so I cannot diminish the fact that they have lost a baby and know how they feel; but there are a few things I find interesting here:

1) The loss of the child(ren) was almost two years ago and they are just now utilizing those events, and others during that timeframe, for a gofundme account.

2) Their blog has a statement, right on the top of the page, that says "Help us restore Union Pacific!". Not, help us, we're lost, but help us fix our boat up so we can sail!

3) Everything seems to be someone else's fault, the plow in the road, the dockhand who doesn't know how to handle a rope, complaining about prices of prime rib and then complaining about chicken - at a prime rib place, all the markers on the ICW are wrong, etc...

I probably should have reserved those comments but as a wanna-be sailor I've given to a few boats but I just can't see myself giving to them.
