Sailboat Sinks Rescued Family Disappears

Interesting, boat looks good. Anybody in the Kemah area know the story?

Family rescued from sinking sailboat has vanished

Illegals? Human trafficking? Hiding from someone and/or the government?

May be as simple as they don't have a lot of money and fear a big bill to remove the boat?

Re: Sailboat Sinks Rescued Family Disappears

I was hoping to post in WG Cruising News since it's such a weird story, but I haven't found anything but the 2 brief news items (the rescue, then the "vanished"). Not the best way to start a "vacation" (really?). You'd think the local media or law enforcement/rescue personnel would have asked a few more questions...but, there it is. Happy cruising!

A family with seven kids? If I were the cop I'd drop them off wherever they wanted and ask if they would call me in the morning. I'd figure the kids would be traumatized enough

Maybe the headline should be:

"Family sinks sailboat; disappears before boat is reported stolen."

The subheadline could be: "Hapless owner has no idea about the expense and hassle to be incurred."

Re: Sailboat Sinks Rescued Family Disappears

Why did the news item say that the boat can't be moved for 20 days? If it is evidence in a crime (smuggling, illegal entry, etc) I'm pretty sure it can and should be moved ASAP. What's with those keystone cops? Or are they just trying to keep a lid on the budget not wanting to spring for salvage?

Maybe they were aware of the Rebel Heart saga and decided to avoid that kind of public scrutiny, or Zee is correct.

Last week I visited the RH blog, and it looks like Eric, Charlotte, and the kids are doing fine. They have a studio apartment where they converted a closet to a small bedroom for the girls.

I live in the Kemah area. It is quite the mystery and is in the local news here. Just add it it to the detritus that litters the bay

That makes sense along with denial and fear of family services getting involved.

The boat looks in good shape. That's really a odd story and it is odd the owners of the boat not being identified by the police. When somebody has an accident help comes first but identification follows as soon as possible.

20 days before they can get on the boat and look for documentation but they can demand to search my boat any time they please. Something wrong with this law
