PLB/AIS for Dog/Children

Any recommendations for a PLB/AIS device that will automatically go off if submerged in water? I have a dog and she's getting very comfortable walking around but I'm nervous about her going overboard. I keep a lifejacket on her at all times.

I found these two but it says that it "activates upon inflation of the lifejacket".

Any suggestions for ones that go off upon submersion in water? Or what other ideas do you have to keeping a dog safe on board while under way. FYI, I am single handing.

I'm in a similar position, single handing with a border collie.
I purchased an AMEC TB-250 AIS beacon, which does have the option to activate automatically when in water.

I'd get an AIS unit, assuming you have an AIS receiver on board. That's your best hope for successful recovery since you can see the location. PLB notifies the Search and Rescue authorities, but you don't have an easy way to see the location.

What about a plain leash ? aka tether ?

Since we go tethered, why not a baby and a dog ?

b.

ps an ais plb should do the trick fine, if you really really prefer to lose them with good chances of recovery

So now we are in the position of obligating others to come rescue your dog?

Both PLB and AIS MOB place an obligation on receiving parties to divert resources to assist in rescue. Is that appropriate?

As a sometime dog owner onboard, I must admit I agree with this comment. There are devices, usually bluetooth, which sound an alarm onboard, so responsibility is limited to the boat concerned. However, our experience has been that they are designed for a one-time accident and don't last well when worn constantly by a dog that might be spending time in the water at anchor.

PLB? Probably not appropriate.

AIS? I don’t know the ‘right’ answer but… if I diverted my own resources to respond to an AIS MOB, to eventually find that I was ‘only’ rescuing a dog, I certainly wouldn’t be upset about it.
