Lost Cat - Jacksonville

I know this is a long shot, but I'm putting this out there on the off chance anyone sees her. We are are anchored in mill cove off the St John's and she disappeared last night in flat water fairly close to shore. Pictures and info in this FB post:

Are you certain she's just no holed up in the boat somewhere? We spent almost 24 hours looking for a cat once....only to find him snoozing comfortably in a cubbyhole safely aboard the boat.

This is what I would suspect. Cats sure do like to sleep and in small tight snug spaces too.

Possibly pregnant and giving birth in hiding? I would put out the cat's favorite food (small portion) and observe it to see if it has been touched over the next few days.

Because the title of the thread does not say specifically "BOAT cat" you might get some flak (but also MANY views).

Good luck (black cats are supposed to be good luck on boats)

There are "Salty Dogs." Are there "Crusty Cats?"

If you are close to shore , she's likely there. They fall in a lot. But don't swim too far. Hope you find her!

Re: Lost Cat - Jacksonville

It's been two days, fairly certain she isn't on board anymore. Thanks for the attention, we have flyers up and have trolled the neighborhoods on shore and I think we have done all we can at this point.

Sorry to hear that. I imagine you've given a flyer to local houses? She's gotta be somewhere...

Displaced Indoor-Only Cats (i.e. Cats Who’ve Escaped Outdoors)

If your cat has escaped and is displaced outside or into unfamiliar territory there is good news — your cat is probably not lost at all! That is because it is likely that your cat is hiding and, depending upon the terrain, he/she is probably closer than you think! The investigative question and mystery to solve when an indoor-only cat escapes outdoors is: WHERE IS THE CAT HIDING? If your indoor-only cat has escaped outdoors or has escaped into an unfamiliar area (escaped from vet’s office, escaped due to car accident, escaped while camping, escaped from kennel, etc.) then visit our Displaced Cat Behavior page for assistance.
This is from: Lost Cat Behavior - Missing Pet Partnership

My cat went missing twice and both times she hid very close to home and didn't come out until well after dark. A cat in an unfamiliar environment is a very frightened animal.

Re: Lost Cat - Jacksonville

Here's a scenario: While living aboard in a marina with our cat. We moved slips to a different dock. Our new slip was one dock over from the original one. A week or so after moving our cat went missing. We were very dismayed for a couple days.
Then we heard thru the grapevine that a (non-liveaboard) boat owner had discovered a cat living on his boat. It had climbed thru the only open portlite and couldn't get back out.
It was ours and the owners boat was the one that moved into our old slip! The cat must have "taken a hike" and in confusion returned to the old slip.

Re: Lost Cat - Jacksonville

Unfortunately nothing good. We are still checking the web pages of shelters in the area but have had no success. A gentleman posted a flyer in the area saying that a cat was found but the number has gone straight to voicemail for months.

Re: Lost Cat - Jacksonville

i hopeyou find your cat. is why i keep mine ona tether..... he has been on board 9 years now... almost got lost once, but , as they say, a miss is as good as a mile.
there are way too many things and critters around to have safety wandering..
i hope kitty returns to your boat.
did you check shelters yet??? is a good idea.. check em all.
