Looking for some female sailors to hang out with!
Hello! I've been learning to sail over the last few months since falling in love with the lifestyle. I went on a 5 day charter in the Caribbean in the spring, took a week long ASA sailing course and obtained my certifications 101-104 on a J26, Catalina 36' and 50' I've sailed an Optimist a few times and a J22 once. My dream is to eventually own a little charter operation and leave the land alltogether! So as a part of my quest for knowledge I am going to fly to Philly this week for a 6 week internship on a Sailing Tour Boat that mostly does short 1.5 hour cruises with a few 4 day and 7 day trips as well. I'll be living aboard and learning ALOT I'm sure....anyway the reason for my post is that I am going to be free on Wednesdays and cant think of much I'd like to do more on my day off from sailing than, well....sail. So if you live in or near Philly or NJ and want a sailing partner for the day please please please contact me! I will be forever in your debt and would invite you to cruise with me in the Caribbean when I get there!

Re: Looking for some female sailors to hang out with!
have you tried local marinas or even local Craigslist looking for local sailors you could meet face to face. The last thing you need is to recruit someone over the internet that will put you in danger while out at at sea. I would say you should be interviewing and testing locally, if you will. this is probably done best in person. Honestly, i'd rather just go it alone and meet people when i get to the desination!!!! Good Luck to ya!

Re: Looking for some female sailors to hang out with!
I have messaged a few marinas and sailing clubs and am just waiting for a response. I've had luck sailing in other cities this way....never thought of Craigslist as a venue before....I keep thinking Craigslist Killer.
I'd be more likely to meet up with a woman I've met online than a man for sure. At least if I'm alone.

@KJ I'm actually going to be working on another tall ship at Penn's Landing while there. I looked into Gazalla a few weeks ago and it seems like it costs the volunteer to work on her and I cant quite afford that at the moment. I'll take the tour for sure though!

Re: Looking for some female sailors to hang out with!
my understanding was you only paid for the insurance and about 1 or 2 weeks of work before you were able to go sailing, but that might have changed. It was a fun ship when I was there. I took her from penns landing up to maine and back.
whats the name of the other ship if you do not mind

The Summer Wind 48' schooner, I think she recently had a name change though and was brought up from somewhere down coast.

Hi again Miu Miu...I apologize for some of the posts here. Obviously some members use their little heads to think with . A suggestion I have is to try a local Yacht club.

Re: Looking for some female sailors to hang out with!
Poor KJ, I think that his intentions were good, in fact, to me, he was protecting the ladies really, based on his read of the first post. He figured that some bloke was trying a sneaky in here and attacked him for it. I understand the OP getting huffy about it, thinking it was against her, but i do not see any cause to be upset at him now you know why he said it. Grovel no more good sir, you may not have come across as a knight in tarnished armour but neither should you be portrayed as a knuckle dragging chest beating chauvinist. We have enough of those anyway i am sure.
Coops.

Re: Looking for some female sailors to hang out with!
+1 to not being confused. I understood what the post was about, but in defense of the others,
1) It wasn't entirely clear that you are a woman, and
2) The way this software works, it's not at all clear (to the viewer) that you were posting in a Women's topic forum.
They were just looking for a little juvenile fun at the expense of some poor sucker, not realizing that you were a female looking for female sailing friends.
Maybe try again?
