Avoid long passages with kids as much as possible - they won’t mind where you sail in the world, all they want is to hop from beach to beach and discover land. The advice comes from a well-know French cruising sailor, who has sailed more than 10 years with his own kids (and more than 30 years with kids onboard). I did an ocean passage on his boat with my young kids a few years back. Obviously, as recommended above, involving them in operations is a key to success. Home schooling and integration after multiyear trips can be a challenge. Kids can also be sensitive to seasickness (2 out of my three kids are).
