Avoid long passages with
kids as much as possible - they won’t mind where you sail in the world, all they want is to hop from beach to beach and discover land. The
advice comes from a well-know French cruising sailor, who has sailed more than 10 years with his own
kids (and more than 30 years with kids onboard). I did an ocean
passage on his
boat with my young kids a few years back. Obviously, as recommended above, involving them in operations is a key to success. Home schooling and integration after multiyear trips can be a challenge. Kids can also be sensitive to seasickness (2 out of my three kids are). Short trips with the kids will be amazing and teach them so much. Kids4Sail is the best resource around on these topics!
