Re: Getting Cats Into The Bahamas

Thank you for the info on the on checking in with customs that is helpful to know. I don't want my cat on the Island itself just on the vessel.

Re: Getting Cats Into The Bahamas

That's really a shame Krakato - I called the Bahamas office just before sending my FedEx package and the person I spoke with had me write attention to her name on the package and she said she would ensure it got processed. No guarantee there, but it was processed very quickly (and I had a name to call back to if it didn't get processed "expeditiously"). Sorry you had a pain. Good luck with your trip! Pat

too funny! I misread the title as "cats into pajamas" and just opened the thread to say so.

Hi Mike, was wondering if you postponed going to the Bahamas waiting on the paperwork or if you just went? We just mailed ours off about two weeks ago, we could leave in as soon as two weeks or it may take us two months. But having the paperwork be 4 months.... sheesh!

No. Luckily(?) we hadn't made it there yet. We had kept all our receipts for the money orders and copies of the applications to hope to use as evidence that we attempted to follow their rules if we were ever questioned about it. But we would have not delayed.

If they aren't going ashore have paperwork from vet. Cats are easy.

Re: Getting Cats Into The Bahamas

You need a different vet. Our Vet in Satellite Beach FL, gives us the international form included in the price of the checkup for about $50. We only have one cat, but have had no trouble getting her in. Make sure you pay the fax back fee as the Bahamian mail system is notoriously bad and it may take months for the mailed permit to arrive back in the states. We had one sent in December arrive in March. We went anyway in January with the health certificate and presented it to customs and immigration in Bimini and they made us pay $10 for them to issue the permit locally. We usually apply for the permit in November for a January arrival. The faxed back copy usually arrives within a week or two. We now always use the fax back option.
