Forum Names

How many couples share a forum name with their spouse or partner? We do, but I've noticed that there are others who each have their own name.

you can create a subdirectory, and a link to the each other's forum, without having to get two domain names...

i.e. www.yourcommonforumname.com/you or www.yourcommonforumname.com/yourwife

you can then find a utility or forum function for creating new links/buttons and there ya go

two for one

We use two names. That way, when we get notice about a thread that has a new post, we are only seeing the ones in which we are interested. I'm not getting updates on making bread, and she is not getting one on repairing a water pump.

Names are free. Why share?

We share. Then again, we also share everything from our email address to banking to shampoo.

But not toothbrushes.

oh you mean USER NAMES on a forum like this...

I strongly urge you get your own names.. for the reason explained above, i.e. you will get notifications of the threads you participated in and have interest in, and more importantly,

to not confuse me, and others as to who is typing, you or your partner.... even if you 'sign' the comment with your respective name...

i rarely will remember that, but i might remeber the user name

Thanks for bringing up the question, Maje. It's actually a potential issue for the site staff, as well, in that the CF rules forbid having more than one account. The logic behind that rule, however, is to prevent a single individual from "talking" to himself in a thread, playing good cop / bad cop to stir up trouble.

When a couple creates two separate accounts from the same computer, the site software will catch this and the site staff will need to sort it out. In the case of a couple doing that, we understand. We even have a pair of members in Australia who share the same computer but who take turns working on ships while the other stays home. One of the pair is in something of a running battle with another Australian member and delights in winding him up.

That member, of course, is convinced that the two are, in fact, one person with a split personality and two accounts, and wants them (him? her?) banned from the Forum. In spite of our exhaustive research to prove to our satisfaction that that is not true, he refuses to believe it.

When a single individual does have more than one account, we delete the secondary account(s) and assign all posts to the single surviving account, giving the person his / her choice in deciding which account survives.

You can see the potential embarrassment that a member may feel when posts that he / she would prefer weren't associated with him / her are consolidated under a single account.

It's something members might want to thing about before registering a second (or more) account.

Heh . . . especially since you have to use cafes in NZ, San Francisco and the UK to maintain the charade, Phil.
