Hi, all! Cavalier's wife here. It was at my behest hubby enquired about dogs on the ARC. Hubby would love to do the ARC and I am not as confident yet, so he is doing a stellar job of helping me address my concerns one at a time. (He's good like that!)
While I totally get that it will be a pain at some points to travel with the pups, they are part of the
family, so any additional hassle they bring is hassle we will have to accept. We are looking to
live aboard for 1-2 years, so leaving them behind is simply not an option. We have travelled with them in a lot of European and North American locales thus far and it hasn't been too terribly traumatic. I really appreciate all the tips about how to more easily expedite checking them in. I found a super blog about an adorable daschund named Rudy (perhaps the blog belongs to someone here?) and the owners chronicled bringing their pup on their international
sails with a little hassle and a lot of joy - that's the spirit I'm adopting! If being tied up a little with bureaucratic hassle to get the pups into an exotic island is the worst part of my day, it would be an improvement over the general rat race! ;-) Worst case scenario, the dogs can stay on the boat when in a restricted port - they are very small and very lazy so spend most of their time sleeping and snuggling our son anyway!
Again, thanks a bunch for the tips and insight - much appreciated!
