Does anyone know if you can take Dogs on the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers? Both are Cavaliers and have full EU pet passports etc.

Google's drawing a blank!

King regards,

Phil

As far as I'm aware there's no rules/restrictions for pets on board on an ARC Crossing... make sure your well upto date on the 'Regs' in the Caribbean etc though....
Maybe more info here... www.noonsite.com

Note that EU pet passports are no good when arriving by small boat, they only apply to animals arriving by designated commercial carriers.

I beleive there are no restrictions on bringing pets into teh canaries, most people have them microchiped. Since the Canaries is not a rabies free area. there are more issues leaving the canaries with pets.

all in all pets are a pain on a boat.

We've never had a problem with pet passports in the Caribbean. Health Dept will ask if we have the hard copy of their shots, which we do, tell them yes and they say okay have a nice day.

It's just a more convenient way to have the dog;s health history all in one location.

The same way that we keep our complete medical records on a flash drive in case of an emergency.complete

I would assume that it would be OK to bring a pet with you anywhere as long as the pet stay on the boat.

I'd imagine the only problems might occur when you are held up with the immigration hoops that your dogs might need to jump through at any ports - do you mind being stuck in an office whilst your rally buddies are already hitting the town? And your rally buddies won't wait if you get held up checking out of a country....

Hi, all! Cavalier's wife here. It was at my behest hubby enquired about dogs on the ARC. Hubby would love to do the ARC and I am not as confident yet, so he is doing a stellar job of helping me address my concerns one at a time. (He's good like that!)

While I totally get that it will be a pain at some points to travel with the pups, they are part of the family, so any additional hassle they bring is hassle we will have to accept. We are looking to live aboard for 1-2 years, so leaving them behind is simply not an option. We have travelled with them in a lot of European and North American locales thus far and it hasn't been too terribly traumatic. I really appreciate all the tips about how to more easily expedite checking them in. I found a super blog about an adorable daschund named Rudy (perhaps the blog belongs to someone here?) and the owners chronicled bringing their pup on their international sails with a little hassle and a lot of joy - that's the spirit I'm adopting! If being tied up a little with bureaucratic hassle to get the pups into an exotic island is the worst part of my day, it would be an improvement over the general rat race! ;-) Worst case scenario, the dogs can stay on the boat when in a restricted port - they are very small and very lazy so spend most of their time sleeping and snuggling our son anyway!

Again, thanks a bunch for the tips and insight - much appreciated!

Just a follow up - I contacted ARC as suggested (d'uh - why I didn't do this initially I don't know!). They indicated pets are welcome on the ARC but of course the owner is responsible for records, clearing customs, etc. On www.noonsite.com (another great rec from this thread) each country listing has a section for pets, which makes it a lot easier to figure out what to do where regarding clearing customs with animals. Hope this info helps someone else down the road.

regarding noonsite - I've found their information is not always up to date. You might check ediplomat.com, and there are other sites as well.
