Re: Cruising with a baby

Only coastal cruising - but one of my fondest memories is of my less than a year-old daughter jumping up and down with joy at being tossed around behind her lee cloth in rough weather, while her mother quietly threw up into a bucket on the opposite berth.

The problem comes when that joy turns into whingeing as they get older!

Since most of the selfish American women in the world refuse to breastfeed, this is mostly true. Then out of complete fear, lack of education and brain-washing of our own medical community, most parents also shoot their newborn full of a dozen different dead viruses in the first few days / weeks to "boost" their immunity via vaccines created with questionable quality control and a generally bad track record. Then head home from the hospital where the mother continues to take narcotics, anti-depressants, drinks coffee and booze for the first 4 weeks while she breastfeeds till she can't stand it anymore. So, ya if you're one of these people i'd recommend sticking with our wonderful "first world" medical care and avoid all these backwards nations who do things the traditional way. Your baby simply isn't safe there with all the other babies!

Sorry for all the sarcasm... hopefully you get my point which is, it depends on what kind of parent you are. There's no way as a "traditional" American or Canadian parent I would go anywhere in the first few years either.
