Cruising Caribbean with Teens

We are currently cruising in the Caribbean with 2 boys (13 and 17). They would love to meet up with other cruising teens, but we have not had any luck spotting other cruising kids! Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Strange, I've found that kid boats always find other kid boats. Put out a call on your vhf. Boys usually manage to find the girls. Or maybe it's the other way around.

We are in the BVI until late Feb. Then, we plan to go to St Maarten. Hopefully there will be more kids there!

We're very new to cruising, and unfortunately, our boys would feel "awkward" calling for other kids on the VHF.

It's done all the time. A quick shout on 16. Don't think there's a morning net in BVI but where there is one just announce your arrival and that you've got 2 kids aboard.

Damn shame more teen girls aren't on the forum helping us with fuel starvation problems or link fit in a windlass gypsy....

Mom... Get on the radio and announce that you've got two studs on board... (you can do it) They'll give you the GAWD MOM! at first... but after you have to beg them back to the boat.... They'll be saying ... Gawwwwwd mom.... already?

Welcome to the forum... and nice boat!

Spend a couple nights in Nanny Cay. There are quite a few teenagers roaming the docks.

Re: Cruising Caribbean with Teens

We have grandchildren stay with us during the summer ranging from 5 to 17 and both genders.. Girls don’t have much of a problem meeting boys and/or girls but usually older, so we keep an eye on them. The boys don’t have much problem meeting boys, but girls? I find if they have a bother or sister they are more gender approachable/friendly.

So what I would go out and actively seek other children when our children where younger and grandchildren. I have found there are usually not that many children in marinas, and if there are their parents have their own boat and agenda. Also they tend to find cruising borings so we have a lot of games/videos/computers to keep them busy. We found the best is to let them bring a friend/family member

Hmmmm, it's shame your 17yo isn't 18................ then i'd recommend Willy T's (Norman Island). But only for one visit :-)

White Bay (Jost Van Dyke) on a day when the weather is good is usually pretty busy with people of all ages, especially people over on day trips from the larger islands and Americans over for a day trip from the US virgin islands. I've seen quite a few families there in the past, and the worst-case-scenario is that i'm wrong and you have to sit on the beach and have a cocktail to commiserate.
