Caribbean Elementary?

Anyone have a good experience anywhere in the Caribbean living aboard and doing an on island school for a few years for ages 6-8 or so? We’re US citizens, not sure if there are any non US islands we’d be able to stay long enough to do school — but would love to hear anyone’s stories

Re: Caribbean Elementary?

Private "international schools" are usually good

Not in the Caribbean but both Lyford Cay & St Andrews in the Bahamas have a great rep.

Barbados public system has some good ones but hoops to jump for a foreigner to join.

Puerto Rico has Saint John's, Robinson and TASIS.

Re: Caribbean Elementary?

In any non-US islands (which means, anything other than Puerto Rico and the USVI) you would have to get a long-term visa. The conditions for getting that vary from island to island; some being relatively easy, and others being pretty complicated and/or expensive.

Probably best to focus on the US territories first, and see if you can find what you are looking for there. If not, then start looking at other island nations, and begin the process of researching visa requirements.

Good luck.

Re: Caribbean Elementary?

We had our kids for 2 month in school in Tobago, Charlotteville with the local kids.

They had a great time.

Re: Caribbean Elementary?

While I only given a single a one hour lecture to the high school students, Robin aboard Cook Monster has over the years given hours and hours of volunteer math instruction at the all age school at Blackpoint in the Exumas, Bahama. My wife and I have also both brought and sent the school books for their library. I can tell you that the help is much appreciated.
