Blog Recommendations

I have been searching the web for blogs from cruising families. I have little ones, ages 6, 3, 1 and wanted to read experiences from people who have embraced the cruising lifestyle and taken to the seas.

I would like to show my better half that it can be done, people are doing it and what an incredible adventure it can be. Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Blog reccomendations

First, check out the links tab at top. There is a section there for sailing blogs. Fair's fair, you also need to post your own blog in return!

Secondly, check out this awesome thread:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...log-23657.html

Thirdly, we have a fantastic search engine - linked to in the blue tool bar up top. WHilst I don't want to discourage you from asking questions, it's worth checking to see if they have been discussed recently

Good luck with it all.

And while you are searching, you can check out s/v Blue Sky. They have just finished circumnavigation.

Re: Blog Recommendations

Thanks tons, not sure what I was thinking. I frequent a Ducati forum and always love reading the posts where people get "flamed" for posting the same question that has been asked a million times. Guess I just got excited

WOW, that Blue Sky blog is EXACTLY what I was looking for.
I find myself trying to trim my 5-year plan down to a 3-year plan

Thanks

Find the book "Just Cruising" about a family just like yours. By the end I wanted to wait until we had young kids to take along.

Re: Blog Recommendations

We are not yet cruising, but we are sailing often and try to update our blog when we do.

We have a 6 and 5 year old.

There are several BLOG links on our site that we follow regularly.

Re: Blog Recommendations

The longer you wait, the worse it will get. We have been cruising with our children for the past three years and just finishing the trip. Our kids were 9 and 13 when we started, to late. They liked the house life to much and it was hard, especially the homeschooling. Last year we spent in martinique, send the troublemakers to the French school here and it got better, but the bordom of not cruising got to the parents. What we notice, the families with little children were the happiest, the kids didn't know any better and there was a ton of other small children to play with.
God luck

Our kids are 9, 8, 7, 4, and a newborn. We're currently in a Florida marina due to the recent birth, but hope to get going again soon.

Re: Blog Recommendations Sailing Families

Hi,
Here a couple ideas. On the Women and Cruising website, we ran a series where 12 cruising families answered 12 questions about all aspects of cruising as a family. Here is the link:

Cruising with Children: 12 Questions to 12 Sailing Families, on the WOMEN & CRUISING website

Most families gave DETAILED answers and included lots of photos. There is a wealth of information there. PLus a number of these families have blogs, and they are listed below their answers, so you can follow the link and keep reading.

Also on Women and Cruising, we have a Resources page with lots of links and our "Kids Aboard" category lists more cruising familiy blogs. Here is the link to that:

Cruising Resources for Women Cruisers – Lots of Useful Websites, Books and Downloads

Hope that helps you! And as you discover cruising family blogs that you find helpful, email us and we will add them to our Resources page!

Re: Blog Recommendations

We write a blog but it's not what you'd call detailed. I'm too busy having fun to write a huge amount. So it's more of a collection of online post cards for our friends and family to keep tabs on us. But it's here:

sy-revolution.com

Some nice photos in the gallery though.

We also have a website that we have started to help cruising kids to share their thoughts and keep in touch with each other and the friends they meet along the way (to keep in touch with friends at home too), it's been online for a few months now with only a few members, but it may be of interest. We host it on the same package as the blog and my son and I created it as a hobby/home ed thing so it's free to join and use.

cruisingkidsonline.com

They can write a blog, create photo albums, live chat and message etc. You'll need the 'site pass' for initial sign-up (to keep the spammers out) so PM me if you're interested.

For us, life's generally good. Home ed has it's hurdles, but mostly the loneliness of our son is the hardest to bear.

Cheers,

Crispin.

Ahoy! I blog about cruising and chartering aboard our 44-ft ketch, Liberty. My husband and I have two girls: almost 2 and 4, and my blog focuses on the unique challenges and solutions we have encountered along the way. Please check it out and become a follower! I also Tweet and have a web site:
