Anyone out there homeschooling with Calvert curriculum?

Hi,
we are a family from California and are planning to head out to the sea next year for a few years with 3 kids. They will be in 2nd grade, K and Pre-K by then. I've looked through a few curricula choices and still think Calvert looks awesome. Is anyone out there doing it? I need some advice and reviews. Do you need the internet often or is it mostly workbooks? How do you guys like it? Does it work for you?
Oh, ad do you think I could

Thanks in advance

Re: Anyone out there homeschooling with Calvert curriculum?

Calvert is a good system. I know of a couple families that use it, or have used it and they seem happy with it. We looked into it, but ended up not going that route for 2 primary reasons: 1. Calvert doesn't incorporate the cool places you'll be into the curriculum, which to us was lost opportunity (culture/history/geography/etc). 2. Three children using Calvert, "school in a box", all had very different materials/subjects, making the teaching burden much harder. In much of learning, our kids can study the same topics, but at different levels of complexity depending on their age/grade/ability.

Almost all of the cruising families we know have their own slant to boat school - and it takes a little time and willingness to experiment, to figure out what works for you. PM me if you have more questions.

Not sure if this will help you or not because it was a long time ago, long before internet but I was home schooled in the cockpit of our boat for 4 years while we sailed around the Caribbean. My mother simply obtained a school curriculum each year from home and used that as a template. She added a lot more with regard to world history rather than local.

When the time came, my parents eventually sent me to a post secondary boarding school and I was way ahead of the other kids academically. However, I totally sucked at any kind of team sport such as hockey and still would rather do things on my own.

It was an absolutely awesome childhood and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
