Any Single Mamas cruising with kids?

Hi! I am a single mom with an only child (7) - I am in the planning stages and wanted to see if there are any other single mamas out there - would love to connect and pick your brain!

Cheers!

well...if you are cruising, home schooling is a must. Here are some Youtubes that might help...

Enjoy...CS

Re: Any Single Mamas cruising with kids?

Wavelove I have met a thousands of cruisers but not one has been a single mum. No reason why you can't do it, your seven year old will be handy enough with a bit of training to hold the wheel, throw a rope, operate the autopilot and assist you with most jobs onboard. By the time your 7 year old is 15 they should be able to sand the boat bottom while you take care of the other boat maintenance.
Good luck with the adventure.
Cheers

Re: Any Single Mamas cruising with kids?

Well, I'm not single or a mama, and full disclosure I haven't read this recommendation but it came up in my feed and is on my to-read list, I thought it appropriate and relevant:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...Curve_of_Time#

The Curve of Time is a true story by a single mother who took her five children and went sailing in a 25' boat in the 1920's-1930's in the Pacific Northwest over a series of summers.

Re: Any Single Mamas cruising with kids?

I'm a single father in the planning stages. My kids are currently 11 and 19. My 19 year old is excited about the idea. The 11 year old isn't to sure yet. But she is very social and I think would like the life style.
We are planning on being on a boat in about 3 years. The one we currently have is Okay for over night trips or camp outs. But I think it would be very trying on us to be in such close quarters for a long period.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Any Single Mamas cruising with kids?

Hello Scott,
That's so awesome !!!
Where will you guys sail to?
If you come to Nayarit Mexico that's where we are my daughter and I near punta de mita and la Cruz nayarit ...
so I am a water women vía sports but buying my own sail boat and sailing it and storing it and keeping up with the fixing of it is daunting to me lol not going to lie ...
I would love if there was a ideal situation where I could bring my daughter along the best would be if there was other kids and learn the ropes from someone well experienced in sailing ⛵️
That s my dream my daughter is only 2.7 months but she loves being on boats.
I hope we cross paths one day
Not sure if we can leave email and phone numbers via these threads?
All the best,
Natacha

Hi Natacha,
Where we start will depend on where we find the boat. If the boat is on the West coast, I would like to sail up the inside passage of Alaska and back. Then down through Mexico, Panama Canal and up the east coast for the Great loop. If we find the boat on the East coast, We will start with the great loop then down through Mexico, Panama Canal and probably hand out in the Gulf of California for a while. I'm not sure if I would want to bash back up the west coast.

I'll see if I can make my contact info available for you.

Re: Any Single Mamas cruising with kids?

I (married dad) wanted to go cruising with our young son, but he is way too social to be disconnected from other kids for any length of time. So we had to consider this very strongly and put the plans on hold.

Hi there!
I don’t think I have much information to offer, but I am a single Mama and sailing away is going to be a new venture in our lives. Eventually. I’d love to connect with you!
