Admiral Ann Cate

After reading on Cruisers Forum here about Admiral Ann Cates spending more time ashore than on the high seas in the future, I am absolutely COMPELLED out of a deep sense of gratitude to acknowledge and celebrate her ENDLESS advice and KINDNESS to many of us; including yours truly. She seems to have been everywhere all the time being helpful to so many of us over these many years. For sure, her beloved husband Jim is eternally grateful for such a SPLENDID First Mate and Admiral aboard, always at the ready and a Best Friend too ! Mere words can never say thanks enough for such a wonderful woman and help to 100's of us over these many years. Oh, how this world could use so many more Ann's. And no, she has no idea that I am writing this at the current moment here in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. I hope that she will not be upset over my humble TRIBUTE to her OUTSTANDING example. As a former Midshipman at the U.S.N.A. in Annapolis, Maryland, I call her a SHIPMATE to all of us, the ULTIMATE sign of profound respect and trust in another human being. I hope that she will continue to advise many of us lessor sailors with her precious words of wisdom and KINDNESS. Admiral On Deck ! Hear hear, I SALUTE you Admiral Ann Cates. Shipmate Michael V. Gutowski

Guys, if I can get my toes out of the dust long enough to say it, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, but it is not that I cannot sail at all any more, it is just that I am not good crew any more; and I have to accept that. But we can sail, still. So please, no fond farewells, yet. Thanks again. Still blushing, though.

Ann

Count me as another member of the Ann Fann Club. Both Ann and Jim have helped me and my Ann in uncountable ways. She offers words of experience and wisdom, along with the constant reminder that we can make it in this cruising life. I feel constantly blessed to call her a (virtual) friend.

Keep on keeping on, Ann!

Re: Admiral Ann Cates

Well that was disappointing, I thought Jim was about to air a grievance about Ann being exceptionally bossy today.
I certainly love Ann's advice and would love to be a fly on the wall when her and Jim are discussing Cruisers Forum.
Congratulations on being a living legend.

Have to agree with previous posters: succinct, positive, clear, friendly, observant, experienced, reasoned, and pretty much right all the time. Fair winds and following seas in your search for crew(!?!).

I often think we don't give thanks enough to those people in our lives that touch us in often insignificant but insightful ways. While I don't generally notice the names of the posters - just the words they've written - I always recongize Ann's gentle advice. I will pay attention to Hatteras53 now, too. That was a very nice gesture, sir.

Re: Admiral Ann Cate

I’m a newbie here. I post extensively on other sites. I’m not much of a snall boat sailor but I spent years working on small drillships when I was a young msn working in the offshore oil fields around the world.
Cate and Jim are sort of the spiritual center of CF. They help give the site what the Japanese call “wa”.

(Of course, the Japanese aspect comes from reading too much Clavell, but “wa” has a certain resonance for me.)

Well done Ms. Cate, well done.

Now about those teak decked hovercraft.:...

I'm wondering if Jim is somehow behind this thread (for reasons unknown)

But hey, I DO support all the upthread comments; Ann.
