This is the truth! Here's a little video of me back in my contract firefighting days at McMurdo Station. Had to "escort" this Adelie Penguin off the runway so a LC-130 could take off. The thing is not even up to my knee and it was intimidating as could be!

Re: A weasel onboard.

I'll trade you 1 roof rat for your weasel. Woke up at 4:00 A.M. today to the sound of a roof rat scurrying around up in the attic. Must have climbed up the palm tree close to the house and got into the attic from under the tiles. A few years ago I was draining a water heater with a garden hose led out through the sliding glass door. It was only open for 5-10 minutes. A rat got into the house and started freaking out the wife. Thought of using the 12 gauge Mossberg but the live trap from Harbor Freight did the trick.
The rat was smart and neither peanut butter or cheese worked. Finally baited with ripe mango and next morning had one pissed off rat in the trap. Released him out in the bushes and for all I know it's the same one. Let me know if you want to do a trade.

Re: A weasel onboard.

Best of luck to you! And thank you for sharing your story for our amusement, I know it must not be very amusing for you right now.

I can't say that I've had an experience with a weasel, but I did have an unexpected experience with wildlife a few years ago. There were some wildfires out near where I work, and a friend of mine and I went to check them out one night. We had been looking at the fire through night vision and taking pictures. When we got done we turned our truck's headlights back on and saw the last two feet of the tail of a mountain lion disappearing into the buffel grass on the side of the road not more than 50 feet in front of us.

This is a picture of a wildfire at night through night vision:

Wow! What an encounter. It would have been really neat to have seen the whole lion! Looking at the fires through night vision goggles adds a whole new perspective. Thanks for sharing both the story and the picture

Anyone come upon a 40 foot Hunter with a weasel at the helm ?? Possibly in the vicinity of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Not recently. It is believed that the weasel probably either jumped ship or was escorted off the same way he was brought aboard. It's been two weeks now and all traps are empty and there is no smell of "dead weasel" aboard. I'm starting to hope we dodged a bullet

Congratulations, Alaska JD!

That's really great news, and if the cat's okay, still, I'd say you did in fact dodge the bullet. Excellent.

My first reaction was, what on earth encouraged you to allow a politician on board.
Good to hear that it has moved along.

I once found a snakeskin under the blanket on my bed in our hunting cabin. I never found any other proof that the snake was still around, nor did I find any proof that he'd gone. Sleep tight!

It depends on if it was a gopher snake or a rattlesnake skin!

Alaska JD: In a way, it kinda makes sense. Kitty is locked up. Weasel sees a chance to slip out while no one's around and gone. It would want to leave where the creature that hurt it was.

Or, Kitty is upwind of weasel when weasel, hungry, and weak, is leaving, and bang! one less weasel in the world.

I can see it either way, but the good deal is that your boat has no dead weasel stench, and life is back to normal.

The cat may have kicked the weasel's butt. JD probably has a Wampus Cat and didn't know how bada-- they can be!

Sisu is one big cat (16# at last vet check). He's used to roaming the woods around Fairbanks catching squirrels and rabbits. Once in a while he brings a vole back. Sisu is Finnish for "Fearless" and he truly is fearless. That said, I think the weasel was a young one based on his size. I think an adult would have been a closer contest.

Sisu lost his commission as Rear Admiral due to his inability to follow order from the high command. Last week he was escorted back to Fairbanks under armed guard. He is now free to roam the boreal forests of Central Alaska under the supervision of a good friend of ours. Everyone is a lot happier

It is very nice to have life on the boat getting back to normal sans weasel.[emoji106][emoji1]

A weasel onboard.

A brief epilogue to the Schodinger's Weasel dilemma . We were off the boat for about a week following my last post. When we returned, we didn't need to open the box to know the state of the weasel. He was definitely dead!!! I went about trying to isolate compartments under the floor by sealing them with spray foam without plugging the limber holes. After almost a week of this I found myself looking for some items I'd stored on the boat but the boat had eaten. (YES BOATS EAT THINGS OR AT LEAST HIDE THEM!!!) In this exercise I opened an unused area under the floor in the saloon. There I found a very dead weasel!!! With no hesitation what-so-ever Schrodinger's Weasel was given a hasty (read pitched overboard) burial at sea. We're now tied up in Petersburg Alaska working on repairing an Espar heater that has forgotten why it's on the boat.
I want to thank everyone for their suggestion, stories, and interest in this part of our adventure... Cheers!
