Maybe so, but in an over 40ft boat it gets complicated. With a quick run through in my head I counted:
1 deep lazarette
3 other cockpit lockers
20 lockers/cabinets with shelves
12 stowage bins
23 drawers
3 hanging lockers
4 open storage cabinets
10 large plastic tubs
14 smaller plastic tubs
3 large stowage spaces below saloon benches
6 cubbies behind saloon seat backs
7 shelves
1 anchor locker
3 spaces in bilge

So, some way to keep track of where I left my glasses or my keys is definitely necessary.

Couldn't find that in my version 5.0 on MacOS, unless it's a plugin?

JMHO, anyone that can't lay their hands on essentials, tools, parts, etc. at the drop of a hat is a fool. Now rusted out cans of food in the bottom of a bilge wouldn't be high on my list of favorites.

Re: Where is Everything on the Boat?

One word - Trello, trello, trello , trello!

Groups of lists - Spares, food etc. Add reminders to anyone so it alerts you to "check the impeller" and btw, it's located in X.

Attach photos and pdf's (great for spares and how to do this/that). Syncs across all my devices so no matter where I am I can check. Plus it also works offline so when at sea you still have all the info. Great feature is the search - Now where did I put that heat gun?

Better than any spreadsheet and it's also free.

Re: Where is Everything on the Boat?

I am married.
In our house, my wife always knows where our stuff is. (Or should know.)
I don't know where my things are, because she frequently replaces everything when I'm leaving for work a few days. Even my stuff. I wonder why...

Recently, she has becoming quite forgetful. That does not help me.

Luckily, my boat is sacred to me, my only mancave !

I envy you guys who cruises with a wife and are happy with that.

Re: Where is Everything on the Boat?

I use Excel and started with the spreadsheet from The Boat Galley. I have numbered lockers & bilges. I group like things together, e.g. canned goods, cheeses, paper goods.

I know others have said good things about this solution, which I haven't tried:
HanDbase with ActiveCaptain Templates
HanDBase
database: Sailboat Tracker
database: ActiveCaptain
pros: database is supported for many uses, under active development, may persist much longer than niche apps.
pros: free, IOS/Android/Win7
cons: requires some hand-tweaking to be used?
cons: no voyage tracking
