Scott have you had the Laphroaig 18 cask strength? It's at my local spirits shop, and I'm trying to weigh whether to pay.

Any brand or blend of scotch over anything else.
I learned in the navy sweet tasting alcohol makes you sick.

Recently I read a story of a ship sinking in Canada, taking with it 1000 tons of barley. Now that made me sick.

Wild Turkey. There are connoisseurs and common sewers, a man has to know his place.

Enjoying the Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel as I write this. "Selected for the bourbon connoisseur". Says so right on the bottle.

Re: What's your drop of choice?

I drank about half a gallon of Old Crow when I was a teenager.

I haven't had whiskey since.

An excellent choice. I love that Skye has one (1) distillery. Have you tried Talisker Storm? Gimmick? Real?

Since you might come across (in other threads) as a _tiny bit_ of a stickler, Stu, may I shout you an "r" for Jagermeister? Or shall I say "Jägermeister" ?

Nevertheless, to add my 2 pennies, I was positively surprised by Maker's Mark and have a bottle on board, coming to think of it..

Someone mentioned Drambuie upstream, which is how I got introduced to Maker's Mark, in the form of a "rusty nail" on a long distance flight to Europe a few years ago. Maker's Mark, a dash of Drambuie and a spritz of Lemon... heaven in the skies...

Sorry, typo.

That's the first time I've ever heard of whiskey in a Rusty Nail - it's always been a scotch blend and Drambuie in my experience. (As for adulterating one with lemon? Yuck!)

Re: What's your drop of choice?

There's a Sherlock Holmes story where he knows that the culprit was a sailor. Why?

Because there were bottles of rum and brandy in the victim's parlor, and the two empty glasses smelled of rum. As Sherlock said, "no landsman would drink rum if brandy was available."

So by a process of deduction ... why isn't rum on the list?

I like the 18, I have the 10, 12, and a few others that are privately bottled. And a lot from the SMSW... luckily we have a big boat ;-)

Well, it might not have been authentic, but the lemon balances the sweetness of the Drambuie quite nicely!
