What Can you not find in Certain Countries While Cruising?

I think this will be an interesting and diverse viewpoint thread. What can you NOT find that you search for in certain countries while cruising? Zeehag mentioned there is no Root Beer in Mexico. I have found there is no Ginger Ale in Crimea ( Ukraine ). What have you gone lacking supply wise in your searches in various countries?

Can easily resolve your latter issue in Ukraine.

Marmite seems to be Western world ( Canadian and Europe ). In my younger days my Kiwi girlfriend had Vegemite ( basically the same thing, but I guess the Down Under version )

Good luck finding butter in Mexico.

You will also never find chili, canned chicken, apple sauce, and a non-watery beer. At least you'll never find any the places I've been.

When I lived in the Grenadines there would be weeks here and there where you couldn't get certain items at the store, be it butter, milk, or bread... When we moved to Grenada we were so excited to be able to drink fresh cow milk, instead of long life milk...

The joys of living on a 3 square mile rock...

To that list, add Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake mix. On our boat, that's one of the major food groups.

(Rebel Heart, have you tried Negra Modelo?)

Canned chicken? Really? Never seen that up in Canada (or here in Florida), but then, I would never look for it.

As a Canadian, I find anyone from the States thinking that beer elsewhere is watery really, really funny. Seriously. You don't want to know what Canadians call American beer, but the first word starts with "P" and the second word might be "water".

Having spent time working in Toronto I must agree about American beers. Although many of the craft breweries here make great beer now.

I think your impression of American beers might be a little dated to be honest. We have a thriving microbrewery culture these days with tons of IPAs and double IPAs along with stouts and imperial porters.

I don't know a single person who drinks the crap our major breweries put out and for good reason: there are amazing local beers that are winning beer competitions around the world.

Re: What Can you not find in Certain Countries While Cruising?

peanut butter. bring it with you, because you won't find it 'there', wherever 'there' is.

avb3 - canned chicken is widely available in florida, and very useful when cruising. and beer? best on earth is english pub ale, but not available anywhere on earth but in the uk. it's all downhill from there. in our defense (usa) there are now some 'craft' beers which are a few steps above the usual dishwater.

bash - and even worse, no krusteaz blueberry pancake mix either. we've had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. and afternoon snacks too. i don't understand why krusteaz can be so good when most other pancake mixes are just ok.

Don't knock American watery beer , I buy it in packs of 20 for buttons at Tesco. Its a useful substitute for fizzy drinks in warm weather .

And why in the name of god would you want peanut butter !! Ugh
