As astute CF readers may know, I bought this candy-a$$ boat about 9 months ago. The PO wife was so kind to give me a notebook of all her cleaning tips. How to polish the stainless. What she uses on the countertops. She doesn't realize that us metrosexual males are way better cleaners than any boatwife. (What I've found behind her shiny footpumps would stump a biologist.) And here's more proof. The water has been tasting funny. And tea-colored too. So today became water tank cleaning day. Yup. Check. All shiny clean on the outside. But why would the PO leave his screwdriver in the starboard water tank? There aren't even any screws in there. Pretty nasty when you consider I've been drinking the chrome plating off this bacteria covered slime catalyst.

All scrubbed out now. Inside, outside, port, and starboard. Also, some Nimrod routed the water tank vents down thru the bilge then up the mast. How many here think that worked well?

On a related sidenote I found that a refrigerator water filter worked handy for a drinking water tap on the boat. For under $50 got T, lines, filter and a single tap to mount next to sink. Theres a noticeable difference in taste between the filtered fawcet and the other.

Heh.

I already feel better. The heavy metals must have been affecting my judgement in the stuff I posted here.

The tap water was not that color, BTW, that glass contains tank water after scrubbing.

Funny: On the second day of boat ownership I bought the replacement for that very screwdriver because it was conspicuously absent from the set.

I can just get my arm into that port. Used those disposable kitchen towels. With considerable pain, and various wild contortions, I could just reach every corner. I have nice bruises and scratches this morning. Used Naval Jelly and a ScotchBrite pad on the rust stain where the screwdriver was stowed.

but I've switched to Pernod and rainwater: to try and forget.

I've mentioned this before: One of the handiest tricks on all my boats is a suction pump (Water Puppy) with a long hose. It lives in the bilge with the hose (3/4") coiled up under the sole. The hose can reach every locker. Makes cleaning a snap. Pumps out the fridge, exploded cans of sauce, and clogged heads too. Never need to do the sponge and bucket chore. At rest it acts as a back-up bilge pump.
