Tinned Meats

Ok, I've known about Tuna for "EVER"... but recently on a cruise the boat owners had tinned chicken....

WOW!

Amazing stuff, tasty and easy to use. I made chicken salad sandwiches and chicken soup from the same can!

What other Tinned Goodness am I missing out on??

Does anyone Tin their own meats?

Costco carries canned chicken, turkey and beef - all are good and very tender.

I agree, Costco has a great selection of tinned meats. I've tried their tinned chicken before, excellent for sandwiches n salads. Corned Beef, Spam, Tuna, Salmon, Mackeral, oysters, clams, Ham, etc. All good stuff.

One thing though, If you get the chance to try a whole chicken in a can, I'd avoid it. I've only ever tried it once, and can't remember who made it but the chicken is injected with a hydraulic ram into the can, and every bone in it was splintered. Not worth the effort.

And let's not forget the old British Army staple--corned beef:

Corned beef as Astrid stated a british staple and the base for our corned beef hash. Open tin, cube meat... fry gently in a little oil add chopped onions, some left over potates..when all nice and browned/light crispy add two eggs on top and cook until whites are firm and yolk still runny. Pile on plate with side order of beetroot and one of the best and easy comfort meals in the world.

Regards

Alan

Hmmmm, So many options. I love it! I haven't had a Costco account in decades. So much went to waste due to the large Qty's. But now that I have a vacume packer.... I may have to join again.

Thanks Astrid, I love Corned beef! Some sourcroute (sp?), red poatoes... OMG! and the thought of corned beef samies!!! for leftovers!

Ok, so is there Canned Pastrami?...... oohhhhhhhh

I am rather partial to the Valley Fresh brand chicken myself. Makes a decent dish with rice and curry.

We can some venison every year. It is great for French dip sandwiches.
We have also canned chicken and other meats.
