A friend of mine dropped off a Chinese water boiler at our house the other day. This infernal device makes gallons of tea. Utterly vile stuff. I thought he was my friend..... Why would he do this?

IMO in the morning life is too short to wait for brewed coffee. So I switched to (GASP) instant. But, not just any instant:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: DOING THE JAVA JIVE ON BOARD BIANKA
Medelliga D'oro instant espresso. Boil water and a tablespoon of Medelliga D'oro and I'm on deck watching the sunrise mug in hand before others have wet their grounds. No filters or coffee grounds to deal with afterward too. I buy them by the case of 12. As an added treat I can enjoy an iced coffee in the afternoon by substituting cold milk for the hot water in a tall glass.

We are talking 3-4 minutes for the clever coffee dripper to make two coffees.

We are talking arabica pure coffee as opposed to robusta coffee filler.

As long as you like I guess that is all that matters....

Thanks for nuttin', Weav. I wouldn't/couldn't go thru all that rigamarole for genuine nymph nectar.

I get that on your 'coming cat the galley will be exactly like shoreside facilities or a Navy carrier but out in the deep blue sea, or even here in the green water of my slip, sucking elec from that yellow power cord like a leach on the backside of Charlie Allnut, there is constant, often significant movement as I am not in a marina, per se, but open to the passing unwashed.

No Mate, gimme the simple life. I want one super-sized cuppa java, and I want it NOW and not too fricken hot. Lately I've taken to guesstimating the length o time to heat the water to avoid having to wait til it cools.

I'm a common man with a common plan, Sir; my dog ain't got no pedigree.

Its what I use onboard. Gas ~ water ~ pourover.....

Bad day at the mast face? Need to invite the lady over to your boat and get on your shakin?

Watch the bloody video............ put coffee in jug..pour on water.. hold over cup 4 minutes later........COFFEE... Just like a press but easier.

I watched, I got it. It's a reasonable way.

The elec reference was for comic effect but missed the mark, I guess.

Seriously..... when I left England in 1990, I probably only had 4 cups of hot tea until 2013. I did get used to and like Iced sweet raspberry but in the main got into coffee in a huge way.

Please take the time to get a clever coffee dripper. $19-$25 bucks in the States....... if you are broke Ill send you the money. (OK.. said for comic effect.)

Well being a southern girl, I always had Ice tea growing up and still prefer it though without ice on da boat. I was in my 20's before I found out that Ice tea could be made unsweetened. Back in the day, going to a restaurant or diner in the south, ice tea always came sweetened. I was totally shocked that Ice tea came unsweetened outside the south. Who knew....

Anyway, I being the cheap er that is frugal sailor, buy only the best generic black tea at 200 bags for $2.00. I brew 4 bags at a time in my 2 quart pot of the stove and make 2 liters of tea which lasts me 2 days or so. I use to use a 1/2 gallon plastic mike jug for ice tea storage, but now have upgraded to clear plastic 2 liter soad bottles for tea storage. nowadays I use artificial sweetener as my body does not tolerate sugar so much anymore.

At $500 a month thouse fancy teas at $4-$5 per 20 bad box just does not do it.

BTW I have never had a cup of coffee in my life. Still a coffee virgin. Weird girl. I know. But think all the money I've not given starbucks :-)

It is so simple to use - when done I just pop the strainer in the sink to drain and then later throw the leaves in the rubbish or overboard. Back when I was much younger, living in my one room cabin, I used to get a loose black tea from the health food store and it had lots of caffeine and a mild sweet almost cinnamon flavor, I forget the name. Damn that short term memory loss! Anyway I went back to french roast using a small melita on my coffee cup. I keep a teapot on the diesel stove all the time so I don't have to wait to make my coffee.
