Re: Spice Rack ideas

A couple of different options that are fairly simple and don't require much space.

The bags in the stowable file folder type box looks convenient and good space utility. The other looks like a store display and the sunlight may eventually degrade the spices, but could work for some.

Re: Spice Rack ideas

as the lifespan of herbs and spices is 6 months, i dono tworry too much on the containment thereof.
i have bottles, plastic, air and water tight , in which spices congeala nd become useless. i keep only small amounts of what i use--oregano, basil, etc, and keep nutmeg, whole, garlic cloves and cinnamon sticks in cool dry places. when i find allspice i hoard it in fridge. cloves, whole, kept in original container in cool dark place.
therefore i only "need" a spice rack for chiles and drying items i use once dried.
i doiscovered a container in walmart that is a drying rack for cutlery that works with my grabrails for installation with only one minor modification. these are bamboo, and work nicely. my neighbor made for me a corner cabinet for stashing kitchen goodies...in trade for this i gave him the table saw we bought for making mast repairs.
life is too good to waste any of it on congealed spices and herbs with no flavor.
as i cannot copy and paste to show you, these must be seen in my fb pages. sorry folks. the corner cabinet is magical. when i figger out how to show you other than fb, i will post. however, at present that aint happening.

I was thinking the second one would be good for inside a cupboard door.

On the Rose I use magnetic spice containers. They work well.

Re: Spice Rack ideas

We’ve been using a nylon organizer bag for a spice wrack for over a decade now. It holds dozens of sealable containers. It zips up and stores away easily. And when in use it just hangs from a convenient hook in the galley.

It comes from our wilderness canoeing days. And while I’ve been thinking about building a better spice wrack for our boat for going on a decade now, I just haven’t thought of a clear way of improving on this simple and portable system.

Currently in 'harbour stow'... at sea I just mix and match until all secure.

Same method I use.

I've switched to the first picture method for the last year or so. I bought a ridiculous number (100?) of the food quality sealable bags on Amazon for about US$12.00. I sort them by type (cooking/baking/Mexican/etc) and clip them together and they go in the back of the "pantry" shelf. This way I don't pull out cinnamon and basil at the same time. It's been working great so far.

Re: Spice Rack ideas

Red sauce for pasta for a start. Also pretty common in Greek dishes.

Fresh is best of course, but if not some pesto from a jar is better than dried.
