Shameless plug for The Boat Galley
I don't often win things, so I was fairly jazzed to find out I'd won an OMNIA Stovetop Oven from the Boat Galley.
Got the oven today, which incidentally is really fast since it was only Monday that I was told I'd won. I'm going to set up some dough in it this very evening for tomorrow's bread.
Boat Galley, you rock! Great tips, very helpful!

I was looking at that oven after visiting their site, I wish I knew about the drawing.
Pretty cool article about the potato smasher.

Re: Shameless plug for The Boat Galley
Gotta say, the thing works pretty well. See below pic of the first thing I'd baked in it, yeast bread. Thanks again, Boat Galley and OMNIA!

Congrats Tami!
It's a great feeling winning something isn't it .
Interesting that it will bake yeast bread. How does it compare to a normal loaf?

The crust on the bottom was nice and crunchy, but the top fell a bit and was somewhat chewy. In defense... I was flying blind. I did get from The Boat Galley that it's best to preheat the bottom piece before setting the pan on it, then turn down to about medium heat. I admit not delving particularly deeply, because TBG is about boat equipment (see below).
I'm looking round just now and at the OMNIA website there are recipes that you can download but I had some trouble.
All that said, I'm at the house using a ceramic flat plate electric stove and I expect different, probably better, results with an actual flame.

Re: Shameless plug for The Boat Galley
@tamicatana, I'd be interested to hear whether you've had further opportunity to test bread? I'm thinking about getting one, and would love to hear what you think after a couple of loaves.
We are new boat-owners, and I've been reading The Boat Galley blog for tips & tricks. I read this post (below) about using a baking stone to even the heat distribution in our Force 10 oven
How to Use a Baking Stone
And it made a world of difference - especially for heating frozen naan bread (Indian flat bread) and re-heating dishes like pre-prepared & frozen chicken Marbella for weekends on the boat. I'm thinking I should get the boat galley cookbook. Do any of you have it? What do you think?

Re: Shameless plug for The Boat Galley
I haven't cooked any more stuff, mainly because we have the boat here at home now and haven't been on anything longer than day trips/weekending. I'd refer to the Boat Galley blogs/Facebook pages for OMNIA recipes and suggestions
Cookbook: I got the cookbook on my phone (Kindle app) and it's well organised with good ideas etc

I bought my wife the cookbook for christmas. It is very well written with tons of good information. I would highly reccomend it for anyone that may be on the fence.

Re: Shameless plug for The Boat Galley
@tamicatana - thanks for the reply, and the mention of getting the book digitally. I may consider that for use on board - on my ipad. And thanks for the confirmation that it's a good resource, @haw1961!
