Sea Water for Cooking

Does anyone use sea water for cooking, such as boiling pasta, potatoes,and such? If so do you prepare the water first? Thanks very much. Diane

In truth it only helps a little, since it is WAY too salty for cooking. Depending on the dish, 5-15% at most. No prep.

We cook with seawater for crab, shrimp, ect when we are out at the beach with no problems.

Yes your correct. We do the same but not for potatoes and spaghetti.

Well no not speghetti. Would do potatoes no problem if I were steaming though.

You can use it for steaming since the salt stays in the bottom of the pan as the water boils off. It will impart a bit of salt if the boiling water splashes up on whatever you are boiling.

We tried it for pasta and potatoes in clean ocean water.

Full strength is far too salty and both are inedable.

Half strength is baeable. But we then found that if we use sea water for washing up we save so much fresh water that using fresh for cooking is fine

If I did it again it would be 1/3 seawater : Fresh water. So the saving is very little.
