Problems refilling composite propane tanks

U-Haul will no longer fill composite propane tanks no matter who manufactures it. I can still find other propane fill stations that will do it, but is this getting to be the norm?

We are planning on cruising in the Bahamas and Caribbean this year. Are there problems getting the composite tanks refilled in these areas?

No problems any place we have done refills. I don't know that we have ever used U-Haul. Is this a specific franchise or all U-Hauls? Chuck

Re: Problems refilling composite propane tanks

I was wondering if it was a local thing too, but U-haul in Panama City was the only one who wouldn't re-fill my Worthington aluminum tank, based on manufacture date. I'd like to get it hydro'd, but haven't found anyone who does LP gas tanks, everybody but U-haul will fill it, I asked and they said as long as it passes a visual, they can.

They are really strict up here in Oregon. Nobody I talked to will refill my Aluminum tanks past the expiration date- but they gave me a company who can "re-certify" them. My tanks look brand new:
I think it's a scam.

Re: Problems refilling composite propane tanks

Well, for higher pressure vessels, especially aluminum ones like scuba tanks, I see the need for hydro's, and maybe even visuals, I looked up about aluminum propane tanks and there are apparently a couple of ways to rectify them, visual being one way.
