Powdered milk in the Med?

Is powdered milk sold anywhere in the Med? I cannot find it in Turkey, and do not remember seeing it last summer in Greece either. I prefer to use powdered milk for cooking because it takes so much less storage space than UHT cartons. And the bread machine calls for powdered milk for several bread recipes. Liquid milk is not a suitable substitute. Nor is Coffeemate because it contains other ingredients.

The supply purchased in Thailand is almost gone. Probably only have enough left to bake a couple dozen loaves in the bread machine. Should powdered milk be available as we progress farther west in the Med?

you may be looking for it in the wrong form of package!

generally in supermarkets you can find it,but it is in cardboard boxes(ceareal box size),not tins as you will be used to buying it in the east.

I think I saw it in Metro and a bigger Migros in Bodrum in baking sections, but not sure, sorry.

Re: Powdered milk in the Med?

Thanks to all. We will be in Bodrum in a few days and I will look there. Really, we have searched every supermarket aisle searching for powdered milk and the only thing found thus far has been baby formula or Coffeemate. No boxes or bags found.

I also have not seen Altunsa organic milk powder in Turkey. I have checked the organic foods section in each supermarket that has one. Maybe that is stocked in Greek stores?

Thanks again for responses.

Judy, you might try contacting Nestle to see if they distribute it there.

Officially Nestle doesn't sell powdered milk in the US, but the groceries import large quantities of it from the Central and South American markets, under different names. Always in cans, similar to coffee cans in appearance. (But cardboard cans, not metal.)
