One for the Americans

Hi everyone,
I wonder if you can help me. I have a recipe which calls for a can of sliced beets. I've never seen these in the UK. Could anyone tell me what these are? What can be used instead?

Confused in the UK

Re: One for the Americans

My guess would be pickled beets--you see them small and whole, or sliced, but usually in a bottle rather than a can. Does pickled make sense in your recipe?

That just sliced beetroot. The receipe may want them pickled or not. If not buy them fresh in the supermarket or speciality grocer, cook em, slice em

Re: One for the Americans

You mean sliced beet like this

In the UK most likely find its in jars rather than canned.

Search (beetroot) - Groceries - Tesco Groceries

Re: One for the Americans

Go to an Iranian area, they love beets. I lived in Iran in the mid 70s, and there were corner beet distributors, much like frankfurter/hot dog stands in the US.
