I'm more of a gin guy, but do enjoy a good sipping rum. Recently, we found Plantation to be an excellent sipping rum:
Plantation XO Barbados 20th Anniversary Rum - Master of Malt
They make the rum in various Caribe nations (each has its own uniqueness) inside bourbon barrels, then return it to
France, where it is aged in old Cognac barrels before bottling.
The Western Caribe seems to have some very nice rums.
Guatemala and
Honduras rums are excellent. The Eastern Caribe rums are over-rated in comparison.
The typical mass-produced rums like Mt Gay, etc should be masked with fruit punches - which is how most are served.
Try a good rum neat - you will be surprised how complex and enjoyable they are.
