Welcome to the - Ministry of Rum

In answer to the "favorite" question - Cruzan Blackstrap, which, IMO, is better than Gosling's Black Seal as an example of the type.

2nd best I've ever had - Santa Teresa 1796

Best - anything in the cockpit at sundown.

I have never been to Guatemala, but I love their rum. 23 year Ron Facapa needs no ice, or mix with it. Anything added would absolutely ruin it!!!!!!! pretty bottle too wrapped in a weave like a hat......i2f

Who cares about the USA rum market, I think that the current global situation has showed that the US is NOT the center of the universe lol

The title of the thread is Monarch Rum.
What little of it is sold, is sold in (parts of) the USA.

The USA is no more the centre of the world* than is the DR; but it may be the largest Rum Market in the world - and, hence, it matters.

* although the current GLOBAL situation may actually suggest that the USA is the centre (heart) of the world.

Ditto the Ron de Barrilito. But not cheap, especially the 3-star. Of the "top 10 in the USA list" (center of the universe or not), the only affordable one that's also drinkable, imho, is Mt Gay (I drink roughly a 1.75L bottle/week, but only when I'm not sailing of course). I don't think Malibu or Capt Morgan should even qualify as rums (Barcardi is only slightly better).

If you happen to go to Venezuela, you can get terrific rums for only a few dollars a bottle. Cacique is great, the 500 label is unbearably good, then there's Santa Theresa, Pampero Anniversario, etc, etc. I think the best rums in the world come from the north coast of South America. El Dorado from Guyana is another beauty.

So how do y'all go about sampling all thease..do you just make a habit or point of ordering or buying a different kind each time? and how on earth do you keep track?...I cant remember the name of more then one or two brands..do some of you keep a "Rum Log" right next to the engine hour log?

In my opinion the best rum hands down, is the one someone else is pouring you! But if I had to pick a favorite it would be Mount Gay , Extra Old.

Sorry Gents - Pyrat Rum is about the best stright sipping rum I have ever had!!

I'll second the Pyrat from Anguilla. Pick up a couple of bottles everytime I'm there. (the boss likes it)

I dont remember the name of the rum, but it came from Grenada with a green label. It was a straight sipping rum, not needing any additions or distractions. - superb.
