Well we have 3 threads re drinking and sailing on the go at the same time "Drink like a sailor", "Sailors with a drinking problem", and this thread"Intoxicated" This surely shows warning flags re sailing and sailors.
At my home port they always had 'wednesday Night Races" which started in daylight and ended as the sun was going down. Yachts of all sorts were packed with 6-12 crew and lots of drinks. Most were invited for the fun and knew little about sailing.If you did not participate you were looked down on as a stick in the mud. Many did not know the etiquette re right of way whilst sailing so bumps and ramming were common. One lady lost her leg after a ramming amidships. Enquiry just found cause as an accident. The excessive alcohol on all the boats was never questioned. Tradition afterall is tradition.Whilst cruising the Caribbean 1995-2002 alcohol and happy hour was part of the yachties image.Accidents in the lagoon re drunken dinghy drinkers' planing home in the dark with no lights did happen.
Responsibility re sailing as in driving a car Should bee a major issue.

Lady who lost her leg re drunken sailors might not see the funny side of such quips She was not compensated re operation,ruined mobility etc.Boats were fixed and continued the tradition of Wednesday Night Racing with too many aboard,safety gear laking for the numbers, alcohol, alcohol. Sorry I'm being a party- pooper. Anything in moderation is fine, but drinkers never have too much, are never drunk, can handle it etc

I would not wish that on anyone, but I am not my brother's (or sister's) keeper.

I must be the exception - when I drink to PARTY! - the idea is to get soooooooooooooo mashed that I meet myself coming around the corner. from last Wednesday. Otherwise what's the point???

Dunno what they put in these non UK gassy beers but whatever it is it does not agree with me... I'll have a coupla cold ones (mini's) to quench the thirst but then its either wine or spirits...

Just the opposite for me, good beer is food, spirits...well spirits evil. A little vino with dinner is a good thing. Gotta keep my sons (grown men) outta the beer, they just sleep all day.

the point is that it was humor, or 'light sighted'...

he applied sufficent compassion with his original comment, and then made a little funny funny..

and for me, i too offer some sympathy and regret, and am sure that the person that was in an accident that involved alcohol will be both, more cautious with where and whom she is going, and to make others aware of the risks and dangers...

I also like humour or leg pulling. Read my comment on "dogs on the Arc"and "living off the hook" threads.A drunk however is not funny, nor should excessive drinking be glorified.
